LUSEN | Bayerischer Wald

The Lusen (Czech: Luzny), with its height of 1373 meters is one of the higher mountains in the Bavarian Forest (Goldsteig stages N17 & N18). It is the sixth-highest mountain in the Bavarian Forest National Park/Bohemian Forest, behind the Großer Rachel, Kleiner Rachel, Kleiner Arber, Plattenhausenriegel and Großer Arber. Its peak is in south of the Czech Republic–Germany border.

In the early 1990s, the Lusen was a victim of the bark beetle. But now the new forest is growing back. Fascinating to be able to watch this formation of the forest wilderness.

The fastest and most direct tour to Lusen:

  • The circular route marked ‘Lynx’ leads over the summer path and the Himmelsleiter to the Lusen summit.
  • Via the winter path – over the Lusenschutzhaus directly to the summit – it goes back to the starting point in Waldhäuser.

Wonderful tour that gives a deep insight into the Bavarian Forest National Park!
